JAG have updated the Accreditation Checklist for temporary outsourcing. This update aims to align with the evolving needs and best practices in the field of endoscopy services. The checklist is now available on the JAG website, prompting all services to review the updated outsourcing requirements.

The checklist lays out the essential prerequisites for safe and effective commissioning, governance, and operational arrangements when engaging outsourcing providers. Adhering to these guidelines is vital for maintaining optimal quality and safety standards in endoscopy services.

During the challenging period of the COVID-19 pandemic, JAG temporarily eased the requirement for outsourcing exclusively to JAG-accredited providers, albeit strongly recommending their use. However, as of Sunday, 31 March, 2024, the guidance will revert to its pre-pandemic stance, permitting outsourcing activities exclusively to JAG-accredited providers.

In cases where outsourcing to a non-accredited provider is necessary due to no alternatives, specific conditions must be met. These include having a clear recovery plan, ensuring the provider is registered with JAG, and adhering to governance requirements for quality and safety.

Outsourcing refers to contracting another service/provider to perform endoscopy on NHS patients, using their premises, equipment, and staff. Regardless of the delivery location, it is essential to maintain the same level of care and consider pre-procedure, during-procedure, and post-procedure aspects to ensure patient experience, quality, and safety.

Please note: JAG assessors will take into consideration the date a service submitted their self-assessment. Services who have submitted their self-assessment prior to 31 March 2024 will be expected to be compliant in time for their annual review.
